The company I work for has a women’s professional group that up until now I have not attended the meetings of. (I know that sentence is grammatically wrong but I’ll let some English major straighten it out.) Anyway…this evening after work I did because the guest speaker was Maxine Clark, the founder of the Build-a-Bear stores. The group was small, maybe fifty women, and I was there a little early (it was one floor down in my building) so I got the chance to be introduced and spoke to her for a few minutes. Her talk was very interesting and even though she wasn’t a rags to riches story, she still shows that one can take a good idea and run as far as one wants with it. She also tossed into her talk a mention of one of our group being a database administrator (ahem!). And after the session? We all got a teddy bear wearing a shirt with the group logo!
