More Snow

I hadn’t been paying much attention to the weather but thanks to my obsessive daughter-in-law I was made aware last night of the massive winter storm that will be rolling through our area over the next few days.  Her advise was to go stock up then but I decided this morning would be soon enough.  The store wasn’t very crowded, I got my usual 9am parking spot.  But every conversation I overheard was about the coming storm.  The Nat’l Weather Service is saying that there will be massive power outages.  I have enough non-cooked food (cereal, sandwich fixings, etc.) to get me by (I figure refrigeration won’t be a problem) and I bought a few fire logs for the fireplace in case I get really cold (in spite of the fact I live on the 3rd floor and suck all the heat out of the apartments below me) and I’ve plenty of candles, books to read, yarn to knit.  I’ve already planned on taking a vacation day on Wednesday (the first day I’m due to report into work) to avoid driving in the snow but I may have to take more if my power goes out.  At work they’ll have a generator going and I’ll be expected to go in if I can’t work from home.  Of course, by then heat might be worth the drive.  :)

Update:  I just upped my preparedness by buying a propane tank for my campstove.  A cup of hot tea will be quite nice when I’m snuggled into my sleeping bag, reading by candle light.
