Houston and Beyond
For those of you who read this through Facebook, be patient, there’s new stuff here not published on FB. I actually have friends that read this blog that are not on Facebook. <gasp>
I took a mini-vacation and went to Houston to visit my nephew and his lovely wife: Jeremy and Tracy. Andrew came along…I let him carry my bag and didn’t even require him to walk three steps behind me. J and T were gracious hosts and we all had a blast. On Saturday we went to NASA Space Center.

If you know me, you know I’m a space nut so I enjoyed every minute of this expedition. We rode the tram for the tour of the grounds, sat in a viewing gallery of the actual mission control room, and saw actual space capsules and other astronaut paraphernalia. But my favorite moment was when I was able to touch a rock from the surface of the moon.

I came back all inspired to make a quilt. Tracy has decorated their house in rich, earthy colors that I loved and on the way home I was rolling those colors around in my mind and thought they’d look great in a fence rail patterned quilt. Being lazy, and also wanting to make the quilting process go as quickly as possible, I dreamed up a way of assembling it that I think will mean a finished quilt by summer. More on that as I get into it (and see if it works!). For now, here’s the very first square that came off the assembly line today during my lunch break:

Time to get back to work now. I’ll post more pictures as the quilt develops. Also, a closer picture so you can see the fabric detail. I really loved the fabrics I found, the one with the balls of yarn so much I bought everything on the bolt!
