Woe is me…my U-verse is broke! It’s like pulling teeth to find help info on how to reboot the DVR but I finally dug out the few home remedies. When that still didn’t make the DVR work, I used the AT&T chat to IM with a “technical” person. That person happened to be a nice girl in India but I have no problem with that. (I’m all for India workers…one saves me a lot of middle of the night calls for work!) After politely finding out that I had done the soft reboot of the DVR and the harder reboot of where the service comes into my house (I forget what that box is called), she said she’d have to send a technician out. He’s scheduled for tomorrow morning.
This morning I did a little more research and it definitely sounds like my DVR has hardware problems. It was making a very odd whurring sound last night and after thinking about it, I realized it had been making a high-pitched whining for a few days. Definitely signs of something going wrong inside the casing. I also learned that audio/video glitches are a sign of impending doom…all of which I’ve been having. Unfortunately, I’ve probably lost everything recorded on my hard drive. Fortunately, I was pretty much caught up with my programs. The only thing I’ll mourn briefly is a full season of Mythbusters and another of Dirty Jobs. I’d also saved up a few Mentalist for when I caught up via dvds. I’ll live.
Netflix has saved the day, or rather evenings! I’m watching Battlestar Galactica (not sure how I missed that when it started on Sci-Fi a few years ago) via streaming and The Mentalist with dvds. Through in a documentary or two and I’m set!
