Vacation - Day 1
When I left St. Louis it was chilly and wet. When I drove out of FLL airport in my rental Yaris, it was sunny and hovering around 90 degrees! The trip was fairly uneventful…I arrived at Lambert about an hour and a half before my flight boarded. Bought a book (in spite of its having a forward by Newt Gingrich), One Second After, which is proving to be a fairly good apocalyptic novel. I selected good seatmates for the sold out flight down here. My strategy in looking for a single seat is to watch for a middle aged couple that look like they’re getting along (but not lovey-dovey), dressed more or less like me, and don’t look chatty. There was a long delay waiting for my bag to show up at baggage claim but I took a seat and read my book for another 45 minutes. Of course, mine was one of the very last ones to make it onto the carousel. But, I’m on vacation, no hurries!
As soon as I was away from the airport and in what I judged to be a good neighborhood, I pulled over to retrieve my GPS system from my suitcase. It wasn’t exactly where I put it which seemed odd until later when I opened my suitcase to unpack and found a note from the TSA. My bag had been selected for a search…an unknown someone had touched my undies. (I’m trying not to think about that overly.) Fortunately, I wasn’t hauling around any contraband!
I found Lime Tree Bay Resort with no problems after about a two hour drive south. I was pretty tired after a long day so I didn’t do anything more than just unpack, walk around to get to know the place a little, watch a little TV, and hit the sack. This morning I spent a few hours on my patio, knitting and playing games in the shade. In a bit, I plan on driving further south to Marathon FL to find the grocery store and a Radio Shack. I don’t have the proper hookup from my laptop to the TV in the room…had to watch Netflix on the laptop last night. Ok, but will be much better on the room’s flat screen. So, here’s a few pictures of where I’m staying:

Room 110 — That’s my home away from home this week.

A view off to the left from my patio. Lovely tiki huts and hammocks.

The inside of my room. It’s more than adequate and quite clean.

Knitting, reading, playing games…under the swaying palm trees. What more could you ask of a vacation?
