Vacation - Days 5, 7, and 7

Being the inherently lazy person that I am, I didn’t download any of the pictures from my camera last Tuesday afternoon when I made the previous entry so I thought I’d include one of the pictures taken that day at Annie’s Beach, just north of here.

Wednesday I drove back north to the Pennekamp State Park for the glass bottom boat cruise they offer.  I packed a sandwich and had a shady spot to eat it as I watched the various snorkeling tours come and go while waiting for my boat to dock.  The trip out to the barrier reef was about 45 minutes and interesting in itself.  It was a beautiful day to be on the water and since the sea is so shallow here, the bottom was clear all the way out.  Once there, the tour guide identified all the life we saw on the reefs.  I took some pictures but they don’t really show what it was like.

Yesterday, I drove south to the end of US Hwy 1 and Key West.  I took the Conch Tour Train which spent about an hour and a half winding through the narrow streets of the old town with a narrator telling us the history and other interesting bits about the city.  I snapped quite a few pictures from the train so I’ll include a couple here.

This was a large banyon tree with the aerial prop roots hanging down from the branches.

Hemingway’s house.  I did not pay the admission to go check out the six toed cats.

And, of course, the southernmost point of the continental US.  There was a long line of people waiting to get their picture taken next to the monument and I didn’t feel like standing around waiting so you have to look at this lady.

So yesterday got the last of the sightseeing out of the way and today, my last full day in Florida, has been reserved for just hanging out in my favorite beach chair.  Reality will rear its head soon enough.  I’ll leave you with another sunset picture from last night.  Someone very kindly parked their sailboat in a nice spot to add some interest to my picture.
